Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, the musical based on the French version of the classic fairy tale is coming to the Cadillac Palace Theater!
The musical features an impressive ensemble of artists who bring to life the fairy tale Cinderella, particularly the French version Cendrillon, ou la Petite Pantoufle de Verre, by Charles Perrault. The musical was written for television, with music by Richard Rodgers and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. It made its debut on CBS on March 31, 1957 (with Julie Andrews playing the title role) and was viewed by more than a 100 million people. It was remade for television in 1965 (starring Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella) and again in 1997 (with Brandy Norwood in the title role). It was eventually made for the stage, with a London West End pantomime adaptation, a New York City Opera production, and a Broadway production. The musical has received many accolades including an Art Directors Guild Award (for Excellence in Production Design Award, Variety or Awards Show, Music Special or Documentary), an Emmy Award (for Outstanding Art Direction for a Variety or Music Program), a Tony Award (for Best Costume Design of a Musical), and 3 Drama Desk Awards (for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, Outstanding Orchestrations, and Outstanding Costume Design)
